The Los Angeles Angels and San Diego Padres have a great pitching matchup on tap on Tuesday, July 4 – but how should we bet it?
Shohei Ohtani (7-3, 3.02 ERA) gets the ball for the Angles on Tuesday, and Padres outfielder Juan Soto seems confident in his team's chances against the AL MVP favorite.
San Diego counters Ohtani with righty Joe Musgrove (6-2, 3.80 ERA), who has been on a great run as of late. Musgrove has a 2.13 ERA over his last seven starts with the Padres going 5-2 over that stretch.
Let's break down the odds and my best bet for this game:
Angels vs. Padres odds, run line and total
Angels vs. Padres prediction and pick
I can't pass up a chance to bet on Ohtani as an underdog.
The Angels phenom has led the team to an 11-5 record in his 16 starts this season, and he's looked great over his last three starts, allowing just four earned runs in 19.1 innings of work.
Ohtani leads Major League Baseball in hits allowed per nine innings this season, and I think that gives him a slight advantage over Musgrove.
The Padres righty is one of my favorite pitchers to bet on – but I can't do it here. Musgrove has a 1.27 WHIP this season, and he's taking on a top 10 offense in the Angels.
At the end of the day, I'm going to take a shot on Ohtani any time he's set as an underdog. Even with Musgrove on the mound, the Padres aren't the team to bet on Tuesday.
