‘Ted Lasso’s lengthy episodes are an exercise in pointlessness as they bring in new relationships rather than focusing on the existing meaningful ones

Spoilers for ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 Episode 10

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 is left with two more episodes, which are speculated to be the final ones of the Apple TV+ comedy show. Perhaps this might not be the case as the new season has brought in new love interests for Keeley and Nate. Keeley’s bisexuality was hinted at in prior seasons, but in Season 3, her relationship with Jack is explored. On the other side, Nate’s relationship with Jade served to ignite his redemption arc as the show revealed nothing about her character. Besides, ‘Ted Lasso’s lengthy episodes hint at a wasteful time on new relationships rather than focusing on the existing meaningful ones.

‘Ted Lasso’ Seasons 1 and 2 largely focused on the main characters of the storyline. However, the third season has received mixed reviews due to extensive storylines, and many of them left in the middle. With amazing characters from the first two seasons, it was illogical to introduce new romantic plots for Keeley and Nate. These two characters mostly benefitted from personal growth rather than romantic relationships. We all know how Keeley’s relationship ended every time. Moreover, it didn’t make sense to add Jake just to derail Keeley’s business by tying her to her boss romantically. Considering the complex characters, it was surely a lazy move to introduce them.

Keeley and Jack’s complex relationship

‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 puts Keeley through the mill as her PR firm struggles to get off the ground and her relationship with boss Jack complicates her life even more. Keeley is intrigued at first by Jack, but the latter quickly sweeps her off her feet with expensive gifts and takes her on her private jet. While Keeley wanted to keep their relationship private from co-workers, Jack boldly announces in the office about them. Jack was always seen with an upper hand in their relationship as she didn’t hesitate to tell their employees about her relationship. However, Jack avoids introducing Keeley to her father and introduces her as a friend when they run into an old friend of Jack’s. Their relationship was hard to understand and it was disappointing to see Keeley’s first relationship with a woman used to drive her back to Roy. Overall, it was an inappropriate workplace romance that ended badly for Keeley and sheds light on ‘Ted Lasso’s struggle to portray LGBTQIA+ relationships on-screen.

‘Ted Lasso’ failed to shed light on Jade

Although Jack and Keeley’s relationship was aimed at bringing Keeley and Roy back together, at least we learned something about Jack’s character, unlike Nate’s girlfriend Jade. Jade has been in the show since halfway through Season 2 and we have barely learned anything about her. She is a waitress at Nate’s favorite restaurant A Taste of Athens and we saw Nate trying to impress her by visiting her daily at the restaurant. When they finally get together, their relationship was particularly aimed at establishing that Nate is worthy of redemption because he gained more self-confidence after getting the girl. He is happy with Rupert’s antics until he hits her girlfriend in front of him.

Only two episodes are left, and a lot of storylines are left to be completed. Let’s wait and see what the final episodes reveal.
