Todd Howard has confirmed that Bethesda's next project after The Elder Scrolls 6 will be Fallout 5.

Speaking with IGN, Bethesda's Todd Howard reflected on the Xbox & Bethesda Showcase, clarifying a number of elements from upcoming games. Howard also confirmed that, following The Elder Scrolls 6, Fallout 5 would be the next project in the works.

"Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production," he said, "and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well."

Very little has been seen or heard regarding The Elder Scrolls 6 since its announcement at Bethesda's E3 2018 conference. Bethesda's current main RPG focus is Starfield, set to launch next year, where gameplay was revealed for the first time as part of the recent showcase. The game was delayed to 2023 from its original November 2022 release.

Also during the interview with IGN, Howard confirmed that Starfield's main quest will be roughly 30-40 hours long, about "20% more" than previous Bethesda titles.

While Fallout fans will no doubt be excited to learn that Fallout 5 is on the table, it'll still likely be a significant wait before we see a first look. The last main entry into the series was Fallout 4, back in 2015.
