Brentford have lodged a club record bid worth £34m (€40m) for PSV Eindhoven forward Johan Bakayoko, 90min understands.
PSV, who are bringing club legend Hirving Lozano back to Eindhoven, had been hoping to keep hold of Bakayoko following their qualification for the Champions League group stage.
However, Brentford have firmed up their interest in the Belgian international buy offering PSV a handsome sum and now they are believed to be closing in on an agreement, which includes add-ons and a substantial sell-on for the Dutch outfit.
Brentford had also been in the market for Nottingham Forest's Wales international forward Brennan Johnson, but with Tottenham leading that chase they have turned their attention to Bakayoko - he had additionally attracted interest from Liverpool and Burnley this summer.

The Bees now believe that they are close to landing Bakayoko, who came through the youth system at Philips Stadion after being picked up from Brussels giants Anderlecht when he was 15.
Signing Bakayoko would take Brentford's summer spending over £90m having, already spent heavily on Nathan Collins, Mark Flekken and making the loan signing of winger Kevin Schade permanent.
