Chelsea have confirmed 2023/24 shirt numbers for seven new arrivals, as well as ten changes for existing players – including January signings Enzo Fernandez and Mykhailo Mudryk.
There are so many changes to the jerseys list that only two of last season’s shirts numbered 1 to 11 still have the same occupant.
After a busy summer of 2022 and January 2023 in the first season under Todd Boehly’s leadership, the Blues have continued to be busy in the transfer market ahead of the new campaign.
New manager Mauricio Pochettino has been equipped with five first-team signings, while Malo Gusto and Andrey Santos join the squad for the first time after loans last season.
Christopher Nkunku, whose pre-season injury will now cruelly delay his official debut, is the most expensive new acquisition and takes the number 18 shirt. Striker Nicolas Jackson is the new 15, with centre-back Axel Disasi handed 2 and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez getting 31.
Lesley Ugochukwu is 16, Andrey Santos is 20 and the aforementioned Gusto is 27.
The most high profile of the changes for existing players sees Enzo Fernandez move into Frank Lampard’s legendary number 8 shirt, with Mykhailo Mudryk now taking 10.
Raheem Sterling has traded 17 for 7, while Noni Madueke is now 11. Marc Cucurella takes 3, Benoit Badiashile gets 5, Carney Chukwuemeka moves to 17 and Armando Broja has 19.
Levi Colwill is now set for a first-team role at Chelsea after proving himself on loan at Brighton and will wear the number 26 made famous John Terry. Ian Maatsen is now also considered a first-team player and has been assigned the 29 shirt.
