Chelsea have dropped their new 'Eton Blue' third kit for the 2023/24 season, paying homage to their first ever shirt.

Chelsea have dropped their new third kit for the 2023/24 season, paying homage to their first ever shirt.

The kit, officially coloured as 'Eton Blue', is a tribute to the original strips worn by the club 118 years ago.

"Eton Blue. A vision stemmed from our past," Chelsea said during the kit's unveiling on social media.

"A look fit for the modern era, but inspired by our roots. Our new third shirt for the season echoes the spirit of our illustrious past, giving us the chance to etch another memory in the club's storied history.

"Chelsea first wore Eton Blue when the club was founded back in 1905, as the Earl of Cadogan, the club's president, was an old Etonian."

Chelsea donned 'Eton Blue' home shirts for just one year before switching to their famous royal blue in 1906. These were accompanied with white shorts and black socks until 1964 when their iconic blue shorts and white socks were introduced.

Though Chelsea have unveiled a new kit, they are still yet to confirm a shirt sponsor for this season.

Their partnership with mobile network 3 ended at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. They have been in talks with American technology firm Infinite Athlete over a sponsorship deal worth over £40m-a-season, while The Athletic recently reported the club met with Saudi Arabian airline Riyadh Air over a potential agreement.

Chelsea could wear their new kit for the first time in their trip to Bournemouth this weekend.
