Portland Trail Blazers star Damian Lillard has yet to make a decision as to his future with the franchise, despite a Miami Heat-themed Instagram clip that went live on Friday.
The video had Blazers fans in shambles, and Heat fans ready to book another NBA Finals appearance. Such is the case in a world predicated on the social media accounts of its athletic icons.
Portland opted against trading the No. 3 overall pick in Thursday's NBA Draft, a move which many thought could be made if the Blazers found an available veteran star to pair with Lillard. Instead, they selected Scoot Henderson, who had his own message for Lillard.
"I think Dame should stay," Henderson said. "If we combine our games, it will be over. We kind of compliment each other's game, we are both fun to watch. Ticket sales will go up, all the good stuff would happen if he stayed."
Blazers: Damian Lillard's agent clears up Miami Heat Instagram live video
Despite the Instagram live video on Lillard's account, his agent opted to clear the matter up with the media on Saturday.
"The music was just a coincidence," Aaron Goodwin told The Athletic. "Damian's not disrespectful. He's not an instigator, so he's not going to do anything out of character. There would be no reason for him to do that. That's why he laughed (in the video). It's a funny coincidence that a DJ would put that on."
Lillard is on a working vacation in Paris at the moment (must be nice), and spent some time at a local club on Friday. While the song 'Miami' by Will Smith was played on IG, Lillard actually went live for 15 minutes total. Other songs, such as Whitney Houston's 'I Wanna Dance With Somebody' was also played, with the DJ highlighting "I wanna feel the Heat with somebody."
Clearly, someone was trying to send a message. It just wasn't Lillard, who for now remains a member of the Blazers as he awaits further offseason moves once free-agency begins.
