Inter Miami have tasted success for the first in their young history after their Leagues Cup final win over Nashville SC, and club co-owner David Beckham explained that it was something that had been building for years before the game kicked-off.
Ever since Beckham took on the challenge of overseeing a new club in MLS, his goal was to deliver success alongside bringing in world-class players to excite supporters. The Manchester United legend has done that and more with Lionel Messi leading the way for the south Florida club, and Beckham couldn't be happier with the outcome.
"It's been a long journey for me," said Beckham. "But a few years back, I found the perfect partners to be on this journey with me, and the perfect family, and that was the Mas family. To be on this journey with them makes it even more special because as a family, they [Jorge and Jose] care about not just each other."
"They care about their city. They care about the club, everybody that's in the club, and that means something to me."

But this journey, that has become a joy at the moment for Beckham and the Mas brothers, was full of hardships and road blocks along the way. While Beckham became an owner of the club in 2014, it wasn't until 2021 when the trio became the sole owners of the club as the three bought out the remaining stakes that were previously held by Marcelo Claure and Masayoshi Son.
"So we started this journey and it's been a long one. I always knew that there was going to be bumps in the road along the way, and there was too many, to be honest. But tonight is a night that we are going to enjoy," Beckham said.
From Beckham's and every Miami supporter's perspective, it was a night they will never forget.
"Tonight was a very special night, I think for, not just for our club, [but] for our fans, players, our families, and all of our staff that have been involved in this journey with us. But it wasn't easy."
"Tonight was a very difficult game," Beckham stated. "Nashville put up an incredible fight. It was very close at the end, and congratulations to them as a club, as an organization and as players, because it was a very difficult game. But it was just our night tonight."
The Herons now shift their focus towards their US Open Cup semi-final against FC Cincinnati on August 23. Should Miami advance to the final, they'll square off against either Houston Dynamo or Real Salt Lake on September 27.
