No team had as much offseason hype as the San Diego Padres, but now we're a month and a half into the season and they're in third place in the NL West with a 19-19 record.
If they want to gain some level of momentum, now is a good time to do it. The Padres are set to begin a three-game weekend series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers are 8-2 in their last 10 games and lading the division at 23-15.
Let's dive into the odds for tonight's big game.
Dodgers vs. Padres odds, run line and total
Dodgers vs. Padres prediction and pick
Blake Snell is one of my favorite pitchers to fade this season and I see no reason to stop doing that tonight. He holds a 4.89 ERA and a 5.48 FIP through his first seven starts this season. He also holds a 1-5 record, so betting against the Padres in his starts has been a strong strategy.
Meanwhile, the Dodgers are going with Dustin May tonight. He has a 4-1 record and a 2.68 ERA. He's giving up only 5.1 hits and 0.2 home runs per nine innings. Both are the best mark in the National League.
The Padres offense has failed to live up to the hype. Heading into tonight's game, they're 16th in the Majors in OPS at .712. The Dodgers, meanwhile, are fifth at .776.
The Padres OPS gets even worse when facing right-handed pitchers, dropping to .681. That means it's bad news for them that they have to face a righty in Dustin May tonight.
I won't hesitate to bet on the Dodgers on Friday night.
