EA Sports announced Tuesday that its long-running soccer franchise will be called EA Sports FC starting 2023.
EA Sports announced its exclusivity partnership with FIFA ended in October 2021 sending the community into disarray. Fans were unsure whether or not a name change would signal the end for the franchise's dominance in the space, on top of what the next game would even be called. That uncertainty is now answered and even pushed back a year further with one more title to have the FIFA name.
"Next year, EA SPORTS FC will become the future of football from EA SPORTS. Alongside our 300+ license partners across the sport, weâre ready to take global football experiences to new heights, on behalf of all football fans around the world. Everything you love about our games will be part of EA SPORTS FC â the same great experiences, modes, leagues, tournaments, clubs and athletes will be there. Ultimate Team, Career Mode, Pro Clubs and VOLTA Football will all be there," Cam Weber, EVP, Group GM at EA Sports and Racing, said in the announcement.
EA Sports Announces EA Sports FC Will Replace FIFA Name in 2023
The final title in EA Sports' partnership with FIFA, FIFA 23, will release this year and then EA Sports FC will take over as the flagship soccer franchise in the company's portfolio.
"EA SPORTS FC will allow us to realize this future and much moreâ¦but not before we deliver our most expansive game ever with our current naming rights partner, FIFA, for one more year. We are committed to ensuring the next FIFA is our best ever, with more features, game modes, World Cup content, clubs, leagues, competitions, and players than any FIFA title before," Weber said.
Fans question whether the change to EA Sports FC mark a shift from yearly release to a live service title. EA Sports will share more news regarding EA Sports FC in the coming months.
