Erik ten Hag has expressed the four things that Manchester United will need in order to beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The two European heavyweights face off against one another in their first group game of the 2023/24 group stage. The pair have been drawn together in Group A along with Galatasaray and Copenhagen, and each will be confident of progression to the knockout rounds.
However, United head into the game off the back of a third Premier League defeat of the season already. The Red Devils were rather easily dispatched of by Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon, with the Seagulls running out 3-1 winners at Old Trafford.
Speaking after that defeat, Ten Hag was keen to turn his attention to the game against Bayern in the Champions League, highlighting four key things his team need to do in order to beat the reigning Bundesliga champions.
"Bayern Munich I think is one of the favourites to win the Champions League so we have to be good there," he said. "But I think I have already explained what we need there - we need character, belief, resilience, determination, absolutely."
Ten Hag also acknowledged that his player's need to "improve" their general play after a number of disappointing results and performances.
"We have to improve, there are things for the team and the individuals, who have to step up," he explained. "Sometimes, in those difficult periods, where we are now, you have to face that and you have to deal with that. In this moment, we don't deal well with it but we showed that least year, the resilience and determination, also in defence, as you say.
"You will see the game. Did you see [us at] Arsenal? Did you see [us at] Spurs? They could have been the other way. We have to correct it by ourselves. We can't blame anyone else. We have to do better, be more resilient and be more determined to get these wins."
