Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard has questioned whether all members of the first-team squad have the hunger and desire to succeed at the club.

Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard has claimed that not all members of the first-team have pulled their weight this season.

The Blues are all but certain to finish the 2022/23 campaign in the Premier League's bottom half, with a miserable first term under Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's ownership nearly over.

Popular manager Thomas Tuchel was fired in September 2022 and replaced with Brighton's Graham Potter, but he failed to get results out of an extremely bloated squad and too was given his marching orders in April.

Lampard returned to Chelsea on a caretaker basis until the end of the season but has won just one of his eight games in charge, losing his first six on the spin.

Ahead of Sunday's daunting trip to Manchester City, Lampard revealed that he can only see fight and hunger from some members of his squad.

"I think if you are a player there are two ways you can look at it. You can go, don't fancy that because it is going to be too challenging, or you go no, no I'm going to show individually in my own way what I can do in a game, to show," he said in regards to Chelsea's poor season and future prospects.

"And since I have been here some of the players I can say will certainly do that. The other ones I want to see whether they want to show. Simple as that, in terms of performance.

"Whatever their motivation is, whether it is to impress an incoming manager, whether to impress another club they might be moving on to, if that is the motivation they need then they should take that and use that.

"Because these are three really tough games, three against the top four, two of them away from home coming up, starting with City."

Following this weekend's clash with Man City, Chelsea travel to Manchester United and host Newcastle United to round off the season.

90min understands the Blues have reached an agreement with Mauricio Pochettino to become their new permanent head coach.
