Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. appointed Anthea Bath as its next chief executive officer, a rare example of a female CEO leading a Canadian mining company.
Bath, who will join the Toronto-based gold producer on July 1 after nearly five years with Ero Copper Corp. in Vancouver, is one of the few women to hold a top position in an industry largely dominated by men. She joins the Canadian ranks of female mining CEOs including Lucara Diamond Corp.’s Eira Thomas and Torex Gold Resources Inc.’s Jody Kuzenko.
Bath takes over five months after Wesdome said in January that CEO Duncan Middlemiss was retiring, with board chair Warwick Morley-Jepson becoming interim head until a permanent successor was found. Morley-Jepson resumes his role as chair after Bath starts, the firm said Monday in a statement.
