The Arizona Diamondbacks have a surprising lead in the NL West as we start to approach the halfway mark of the season.
Now, they'll take on the Cleveland Guardians in a weekend series. This will be the second straight series the Guardians will be facing an NL West team after losing a series to the San Diego Padres.
Let's check out the odds for tonight's series opener and then I'll give you my best bet.
Guardians vs. Diamondbacks odds, run line, and total
Guardians vs. Diamondbacks prediction and pick
Despite the Diamondbacks sporting the better record, I actually like the Cleveland Guardians as underdogs in this spot.
They have surprisingly been one of the hottest offense in the Majors over the past few days. In fact, they're third in OPS over the past week. It looks like an offense that has struggled for the majority of the season is finally starting to find its stride.
The Guardians will have to face Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks, who has had a strong season, but is coming off a start where he allowed five earned runs in 5.2 innings against the lowly Detroit Tigers.
Cleveland will start a strong pitcher as well is Triston McKenzie. While his 4.50 ERA is nothing to write home about, his 2.78 FIP (Field Independent Pitching) indicates we may see some positive regression from him in the near future.
I'll take the Guardians as short road underdogs.
