Lori Vallow faces lifetime imprisonment, while Chad Daybell is being tried separately

Vallow has been found guilty on all counts of murdering her two children and conspiring in the murder of her husband's first wife. This shocking case has captured the nation's attention since the children, 17-year-old Tylee Ryan and 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow, went missing in 2019. Lori had pleaded not guilty to the two counts of first-degree murder and three counts of conspiracy related to the deaths of her children and Tammy Daybell, her husband's first wife. However, a jury of seven men and five women reached a unanimous guilty verdict on May 12.

The verdict was read out in court, and Vallow showed no visible reaction. She faces life imprisonment when she is sentenced in approximately three months' time. Vallow will be transferred from Ada County to Fremont County for further proceedings and sentencing. As the jurors were excused, Vallow stood with her arms crossed, briefly spoke to her attorney, and quickly walked out of the courtroom under the escort of a bailiff. Among Vallow's charges was grand theft, on suspicion of changing bank accounts to collect Social Security benefits on behalf of her children after their deaths. Prosecutors allege that she failed to report her children missing to keep collecting the money.

Chad, Vallow's husband, who also pleaded not guilty to his charges, will be tried separately. Tammy, Chad's first wife, died in her sleep in October 2019. Vallow married Chad just weeks later. Law enforcement authorities discovered the remains of Chad's stepchildren in his backyard in Fremont County, Idaho, in June 2020. He is charged with two felony counts of conspiracy to commit destruction, alteration, or concealment of evidence and two felony counts of destruction, alteration, or concealment of evidence.m The trial lasted for a month, and in the closing arguments, Madison County prosecuting attorney Rob Wood urged the jury to convict Vallow on every count for which she was charged. This case has been devastating for all involved, and the guilty verdict brings some closure to those who loved and cared for Tylee and JJ.
