Victor Wembanyama makes his NBA Summer League debut on Friday night against No. 2 overall pick Brandon Miller and the Charlotte Hornets.
The time has come!
Wemby is arguably the most hyped prospect since LeBron James broke into the NBA in 2003, and he should showcase his extremely unique game in this matchup.
The Spurs and Hornets played in the California Classic earlier this week, with the Spurs (without Wemby) blowing out the Hornets by 20 points. Miller struggled early in that game, but the Spurs have gotten some great contributions from Julian Champagnie and Dominick Barlow so far this summer.
Let's dive into the odds for Wemby's first game in an NBA uniform:
Hornets vs. Spurs odds, spread and total
Spread
- Hornets +6.5 (-110)
- Spurs -6.5 (-110)
Moneyline
- Hornets: +210
- Spurs: -250
Total
- 184.5 (Over -110/Under -110)
Hornets vs. Spurs prediction and pick
This is by far the biggest spread on Friday night (are we paying a Wemby tax?), but I still love the Spurs to win big in this matchup.
Miller has not looked great in his first few Summer League showings, fouling a ton and shooting pretty inefficiently.
Meanwhile, the Spurs dominated the Hornets – with Miller playing – in the California Classic. Now, they add the likely Rookie of the Year to the mix in this game.
San Antonio has a good amount of young talent, and Champagnie really likes to earn a roster spot with his scoring prowess this summer.
I do like the Hornets' options at guard, but I don't see them keeping up with the Spurs if Wemby plays significant minutes.
Pick: Spurs -6.5 (-110)
