Vin Diesel announces a female-led 'Fast & Furious' spin-off and fans are already annoyed that the franchise is not ending

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The highly-anticipated eleventh installment in the ‘Fast & Furious’ saga, titled ‘Fast X’, hit the theaters recently and garnered positive reviews from ardent fans of the franchise. The film’s cliffhanger ending has already made it clear that Vin Diesel and the team will return for more bombastic action. However, the buck doesn’t stop there and the makers of the franchise are making all the efforts of expanding the franchise with the help of spin-offs. The franchise’s leading star, Vin Diesel, has also confirmed the reports about the spin-offs and shared an exciting update about the same.

The movie series began in 2001 with the film ‘The Fast and the Furious’, which largely focused on illegal street racing. It turned out to be a gigantic hit at the box office and earned $207.3 million globally. As a result, the film spawned three movie sequels between 2003 and 2009. After the fourth film, the series took a different approach and transitioned towards heists and spying. Apart from the original franchise, the series also includes the spin-off film ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ starring Dwayne Johnson, Idris Elba, and Jason Statham in pivotal roles. The film became a huge success at the box office and earned $760.7 million globally. Now, the producers of the ‘F&F’ franchise believe it’s time to expand the franchise exponentially and come out with a spin-off that solely focuses on a female character.

Diesel started developing a female-led spin-off in 2017

Speaking to Variety at the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project (CTAOP) Block Party, Diesel confirmed that a spin-off primarily focusing on the franchise’s women is in the works. The actor-turned-producer also made it clear that the original franchise is going to be over soon and now, his focus will be on launching all the spin-offs.

“I started developing the female spinoff in 2017 with other spinoffs, and the sooner I deliver the finale, the sooner I can launch all the spinoffs,” Diesel said.

Although fans were quite happy that a female-led ‘Fast & Furious’ spin-off has been announced, a certain section of social media was annoyed with the fact that the franchise will continue after the conclusion of the original movie series.

'Can this franchise end?!'

One user wrote, “CAN THIS FRANCHISE END?!?!,” while another tweeted, “No! NOOOOO!! Just stop.” A comment read, “No more. I'm done with this,” while one user tweeted, “Nobody is gonna watch it.” Another user noted, “The next franchise to go woke.”

“Fast and Furious is already an ABOMINATION and now they want to outsuck their movies. Jesus. ABOMINATION OVERLOAD,” wrote an annoyed user.

As far as spin-offs are concerned, ‘Hobbs & Shaw’ performed very well at the box office and made the producers realize that ardent fans of the franchise want to see storylines based on new characters. So, a female-led spin-off might turn out to be a great move for the franchise and obviously, the producers.

Meanwhile, ‘Fast X’ continues to rake in money at the box office and has already earned more than $318 million globally in its opening weekend. The movie garnered mixed reviews from the critics but continues to be a hit among the fans.
