Legal & General Group Plc said António Simões will replace Nigel Wilson as its chief executive officer.
Simões, who joins from Banco Santander where he was Regional Head of Europe, will take up the role on Jan. 1, according to a statement Thursday. The former McKinsey & Co. partner spent 13 years at HSBC, including as CEO of UK and Europe, before joining Santander.
Nigel Wilson said in January he was stepping down as CEO after more than a decade at the helm of the financial services group. Over his tenure he oversaw the growth of Legal & General Investment Management into one of Europe’s largest, with more than £1.3 trillion ($1.6 trillion) under management.
Wilson also established Legal & General Capital, the group’s alternative asset platform, in 2013. The platform has enabled investments in infrastructure and housing projects across the UK.
