Season 14 of Apex Legends has just arrived and we are still in the process of determining what the meta is.
One of the most popular Legends, Valkyrie, just received a nerf but according to some of the game's top players she's still a viable choice.
But what about other Legends like Crypto and Wattson? They haven't been a part of the meta as of late nor does it seem like they will be soon. They've never really been players' first choice and aren't that popular, fitting a very particular style of play. Neither defense nor offense.
According to an Apex Legends Developer, the two Legends won't be seeing any major overhauls any time soon.
"We're always actually careful not to push them out of their playstyles because I think that characters like Crypto or Wattson sort of own a very specific space in the gameplay for Apex," Design Director Evan Nicolich had to say, "We could do things to those characters to make them meta if we wanted to. But the goal isn't to make all the characters really good in every way."
It seems that the developers would rather add minor changes to these characters instead of a complete overhaul change. Which makes sense — it wouldn’t be fun to see any character become amazing at any time.
It would take away the variety of the game and the fun of using different characters. Instead of overpowering with a certain Legend already part of the meta, you can try and compete with some of the other non-meta Legends.
