Lions defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson commented on the team's new alternate helmets with bit of constructive criticism.

The Lions unveiled new alternate helmets for the 2023 season, blending throwback elements with a fresh take on the team's colors.

As you might expect with any new helmet design, fans had mixed opinions on the look. So did the players, apparently.

Defensive back CJ Gardner-Johnson, who signed a one-year deal with the team this spring, didn't sound too impressed on social media.

"Should've did Black," Gardner-Johnson tweeted along with an emoji of a bald eagle and a yawning face.

It's not exactly clear what Gardner-Johnson was getting at with that one but plenty of Lions fans agreed with him that it would have been cool to see black helmets in 2023.

At the same time, Eagles fans took to reading between the lines and jumped at the chance to troll Gardner-Johnson for leaving Philadelphia.

CJ Gardner-Johnson critiques Lions helmets, spars with Eagles fans

"This guy was beloved in Philly. Now he's nothing but a constant clown that has Eagle envy. Took less money to be a lesser team. Grass isn't always greener (pun intended)," one Twitter user wrote.

Gardner-Johnson set the record straight on what color the grass is in Detroit.

"I got time today , STFU!! I'm still beloved by the real ones my g ! Love was never lost! And grass is definitely greener my g my family STRAIGHT," Gardner-Johnson tweeted.

So that's what's been happening in Lions and Eagles Twitter drama this week. It's all about the color wheel.

Gardner-Johnson started his career as a fourth-round draft pick of the Saints out of Florida. He was named to the Pro Football Writer's Association's All-Rookie Team in 2019 but his sophomore season in the league was contentious. He got into a physical altercation with teammate Michael Thomas and multiple Bears wide receivers on different occasions during the season.

In 2022, New Orleans traded Gardner-Johnson to the Eagles where he had success. While Philadelphia extended an offer to keep him on the team, Gardner-Johnson apparently thought the deal was below his market value and he went forward into free agency, landing with Detroit.
