Two narrative narrative leads for the Call of Duty series revealed their ideal spinoff would focus on the origin story of longtime fan-favorite character Ghost.
Narrative Director Jeffrey Negus and Head Writer Brian Bloom spoke to IGN in advance of Modern Warfare 2's release, and when the interviewer asked about what spinoff they'd most prefer to make, they didn't mince words.
"Yeah, I'm going to say it. Ghost's origin story," Bloom said. "There are others who would like to do that too. And we think that would be really interesting. And again, that's kind of where this interview started, that there's something about that character that's iconic, but the mask and some of those more superficial elements, as we've attempted to build them out here in our current releases, where did some of those things come from? And exploring that, and looking at that would be something I think the audience would love, and we would love to get into."
Simon "Ghost" Riley first appeared in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which Infinity Ward released in 2009. He is a member of Task 141, and is a main character in the upcoming Modern Warfare 2.
"It's hard for us not to jam on like, 'Man, wouldn't that be cool?'" Negus added.
Modern Warfare 2 arrives Oct. 28.
