NBA Rumors: According to Keith Pompey, the 76ers are listening to trade calls on Tobias Harris. The Phoenix Suns are interested.
The teams that are interested include Phoenix Suns, Utah Jazz, and Dallas Mavericks. The other teams that were previously mentioned to have an interest in the scorer are looking to trade for the player and are still in play — that list includes Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, and Detroit Pistons.
Harris only has one more year left on his deal. If Harden were to leave this off-season, this would force the Sixers into a desperation mode to keep Joel Embiid long-term. While Embiid would not request a trade due to his deal, things would start to get scary for the team's chances of keeping the MVP big man.
76ers GM Daryl Morey has asked a lot in return for the player. According to one Cavs source, the 76ers asked for Jarrett Allen, Evan Mobley, and draft picks. This is a trade offer that is clearly too much for a player of Harris's stature.
NBA Rumors: 76ers receive more calls on Tobias Harris, including Suns
The Suns would make zero sense as this would require the use of their last good asset going forward. Phoenix is a team that needs depth and not another player who will command near max money. Also the Suns would have to find a way to get the Sixers a suitable return via a three-team trade, perhaps involving DeAndre Ayton.
The Jazz would be a very interesting fit due to the fact that they have a boat-load of assets and could compete quickly. Most likely, Utah is just checking on the price. The Jazz are still in the second year of their rebuild and have a ways to go. Adding an established veteran player like Harris would not help this team win a title.
Of this list, the Mavericks are the most interesting suitor. If Irving were to leave the Mavericks, Harris would be a suitable scoring replacement. The Mavs are a team on notice to compete with Luka Doncic.
Getting Harris would help solve that problem.
