With the Overwatch League (OWL) heading into the third tournament cycle of its 2022 season, OWL head Sean Miller revealed several key details regarding what patch of the game the action will take place on.
From updates to Moira and Mercy, to Junker Queen and Paraíso being added to the fray, here's a breakdown of the OWL Summer Showdown Overwatch 2 patch.
Overwatch League Summer Showdown Patch: Full Details
A unique dynamic that's been set in place by Blizzard essentially since the day before Season 4 Play-ins in September 2021, the OWL and its teams are competing in a game that's still in development, of course, and has yet to be released.
As such, and as tweeted by Miller on Monday, the OWL is set to continue its regular season action on a patch of Overwatch 2 that has been slightly modified since the end of Beta 2.
Perhaps the biggest change is that Moira's beta changes, namely her new Necrotic Orb ability, have been reverted and won't be used moving forward.
According to the dev blog post, "many players would just hold the ability for the perfect moment, which had the side effect of decreasing the amount of 'cool stuff happening' in moment-to-moment gameplay and shifting too much of it into healing."
Additionally, the patch will seemingly use a different iteration of Guardian Angel from Beta 2 that includes the newly added directional control, but also allows Mercy to super jump in a similar way as before.
Per Blizzard, "this means canceling the ability with crouch will launch her straight upwards, without having to look in that direction."
Lastly, the last bit of details for the new patch that the OWL will soon be using is that both the new tank, Junker Queen, and the new Hybrid map, Paraíso, will be fair game for the pros to showcase.
The 2022 Overwatch League Summer Showdown Qualifiers are set to kick off on Aug. 11 at 3 p.m. ET with London Spitfire vs. Florida Mayhem.
