In the July 11 update for the Overwatch 2 beta, support players were surprised to see that Mercy is now a viable counter to Parah.
Mercy's Guardian Angel Super Jump ability was reworked, after fans spent the last month exploiting a bug, which made the support hero virtually impossible to track. Developers said that the new rework implements "a meter that charges while the ability is active.” The new rework actually embraces the bug players found, but makes it more game-friendly.
Quickly after the patch went live, a redditor posted a clip of Mercy killing Pharah while using the new ability, leading players to believe that Mercy may be a surprise counter to Pharah.
The new ability allows Mercy to be much more versatile in the air, putting her on par with Pharah. The charge meter implemented can gauge how high Mercy can jump, and gives her horizontal movement in the air as well.
It is worth mentioning that in order for the ability to be used effectively, Mercy needs to rely on teammates positioning in order to time the jumps correctly. Now being able to fly up to attack heroes like Pharah, and having increased mobility in the air has added a whole new dimension of offensive abilities to the support character's kit.
Overwatch 2 is just a few months away, and by implementing new and exciting reworks such as this makes the highly anticipated sequel more than just a reskin of the original game.
