Boston Red Sox works quickly in replacing Kike' Hernandez and add some depth to the farm system.

The Boston Red Sox have been pretty active in bolstering their roster and making moves to add more depth to their organization. They just sent Enrique Hernandez to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a deal that landed them right-handed relief pitchers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman.

In this deal, Boston loses a utility player and leaves a hole to fill. Until they added a minor leaguer that has been tearing it up in Triple-A this season for the Nashville Sounds.

Eddy Alvarez, a 33-year-old infielder/outfielder has been hitting .283, seven home runs, and 32 RBIs in 63 games played in Nashville.

Red Sox replace Kiké Hernandez on the fly

Alvarez does have some Major League experience. Sporadically from 2020-2022, he has hit only .183, one home run, and 11 RBIs in 50 games played. The Red Sox have been searching for middle infield help for some time now. It's hard to see how Alvarez could sneak on the Red Sox's active roster as an infielder since they're already stacked and Story should be returning soon. Luckily, for Boston, he is a guy that is versatile and can play both infield and outfield if needed.

He hasn't had the greatest run as a Major League up to this point, but he has been solid all year in Triple-A, so he deserves another shot in the big leagues. In addition to earning an opportunity, he has some potential to play in Boston with Hernandez gone.
