PARIS, France (Reuters) -Nice moved provisionally top of Ligue 1 on Saturday courtesy of a late header by Evann Guessand that secured a 1-0 home victory against Olympique Marseille.

The match remained closely contested until the 79th minute when Guessand met a cross from a free kick with precision, sending his header into the top left corner.

At the end of the match, Marseille's Leonardo Balerdi was sent off for two yellow cards within four minutes, the latter for a tackle that led to the free kick Guessand scored from.

Nice are top of the table with 19 points, two ahead of third-placed AS Monaco who play Metz on Sunday. Paris St. Germain are second on 18 points.

Kylian Mbappe was in top form as PSG secured a 3-0 home victory against RC Strasbourg, scoring one goal and creating another.

He put PSG ahead 10 minutes into the match with a penalty, awarded after team mate Goncalo Ramos was brought down.

Carlos Soler extended the lead shortly after the half-hour mark, finishing from close range following a cutback from Mbappe from the byline.

Fabian Ruiz secured the three points at a rainy Parc des Princes in the 77th minute, deftly manoeuvring past two defenders inside the box before finding the back of the net.

Marseille are seventh with 12 points, while Strasbourg are 12th with 10 points.
