The Pittsburgh Steelers have found another quality wide receiver. However, someone feels that George Pickens can up his game after a solid rookie season.

Pickens finished third on the team in receptions behind fellow wide receiver Diontae Johnson (86) and second-year tight end Pat Freiermuth (63).

The Pittsburgh Steelers used a second-round pick a year ago on University of Georgia standout George Pickens. There were some spectacular moments from the 2021 national champion. He finished with 52 catches for 801 yards and led Mike Tomlin's team in yards per reception (15.4 average) and touchdown grabs (4).

Steelers expect more from George Pickens

So, what's next for Pickens? Second-year wide receivers coach Frisman Jackson had some definitive thoughts during a recent interview with 93.7 The Fan.

"We're hoping to add to his repertoire," added Jackson (via Steelers.com). "Last year he showed the vertical part of his game. He has a lot more to his game. Hopefully, this year we can get him doing a bunch more of what he's capable of doing. We gotta get him to be better after the catch. He's gotta be able to take a slant and go 60 (yards) with it.

"He showed one part of his game last year. We're working and improving the other parts of his game."

Pickens finished second on the team in total touchdowns (5) behind running back Najee Harris (10). Four of his five TDs came during the Steelers' 7-2 finish. Both he and quarterback Kenny Pickett are preparing for their second NFL season and with talent comes great expectations.

Pittsburgh's wide receiver depth chart includes Pickens, Johnson, veteran Allen Robinson (acquired via trade from the Rams this offseason), and speedy Calvin Austin III (who missed his rookie campaign). Obviously, bigger things are being expected from the second-year pro who played in all 17 games and made 12 starts this past year. Pickens is looking to make the Pro Bowl after being "snubbed" (his words) this past season. The talent is three for a big 2023 campaign.
