NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Grammy-winning country singer Maren Morris has become the center of attention for many conservatives as she officially announced her departure from the genre.

As she has been critical of country music, 'The Five' hosts came in defense of the genre as they trashed Morris for her "wokeness."

Fox News anchors also questioned Morris's career on the Tuesday, September 19 broadcast, especially after she made a major shift in her music and garnered much hate and disapproval from her own fan base.

Maren Morris won't be the next Taylor Swift

Morris came under fire for not just announcing her departure from country music but for throwing shade at the genre she called "misogynistic, racist, homophobic and transphobic" in an interview with LA Times.

Host Dana Perino compared Morris to former country singer and popstar Taylor Swift as they both had different ways of making genre transitions.

"Taylor Swift, when she decided to blend into pop after country, she kept all of her country fans and grew it," Perino pointed out.

"Maren Morris thinks that she's going to do the same thing but I think that she might be surprised because it's not necessarily like that...I think a lot of people in Nashville would say 'bye bye," Perino added.

Host Harold Ford Jr also criticized her for villainizing the entire genre saying that he hopes "she continues making music but let others make music too."

'The Five' hosts claim Maren Morris has lost her fanbase

Host Greg Gutfeld mocked Morris in the segment. He cooked up what he called a new headline for the news piece, "Country star no one heard of gets publicity the easy way by trashing fans and going woke."

Jesse Watters then introduced his "source" from Nashville as he revealed that "it's a matter of 'you can't fire me because I quit."

He also believed that she wouldn't be successful in her music career with this major change.

"The country music community had not wanted to be associated with her anymore," he explained.

"She had gone on stage with drag queens and she had gone 'woke' and lost her fanbase and now she's trying to transition into pop. And I don't think it's going to work out," Watters added.
