Cowboys' Trevon Diggs is asking for all the smoke after trash-talking a 49ers wide receiver — this potential NFC championship matchup is going to be a good one.
This offseason, Dallas Cowboys gave Trevon Diggs a lucrative long-term deal and, by extension, the freedom to talk trash when a conference rival disses him.
Diggs, who is known in Dallas for his distinctive ball skills and big-play ability, naturally doesn't like many San Francisco 49ers players. The team that beat you in the playoffs for the last two consecutive years is going to be a sore subject.
In Diggs defense, he didn't start the fight. It began with an underhanded comment from 49ers wideout Jauan Jennings: Jennings wrote, "Can't wait to see him again," under an NFL post about Diggs being ranked No. 60 in the NFL Top 100.
Diggs responded by tagging Jennings and saying, "u will never line up in front of me in your life."
Shots fired.
Cowboys' Trevon Diggs attacks 49ers' Jauan Jennings in social media feud
This is far from the first social media feud between NFL players this summer, and it only adds fuel to the existing fire.
Diggs recently got a five-year, $97 million extension securing his future in Dallas, and as one of the Cowboys' top cornerbacks, he may have felt like picking a fight with a rival that day.
The Cowboys and 49ers went head-to-head in the NFC divisional round this past January; San Francisco eked by to a 19-12 victory.
Searching to end their extended NFC Championship drought, the Cowboys will have to rely on Diggs and the defense shutting down even extremely talented offenses like the 49ers as well as Dak Prescott having a consistent campaign.
Diggs is right about one thing: Jennings is probably never going to line up in from of him in his career. Deadlier 49ers weapons — Deebo Samuel, Brandon Aiyuk — will get that honor.
Get ready for a feisty Week 5 regular season matchup between these stacked NFC teams.
