Manchester United and Liverpool may have been off the pace in the Premier League title race during the 2022/23 campaign but they remain the two most successful clubs in English football history.
With 39 top-flight titles between them and 32 miles of road separating the north western powerhouses, this is a rivalry forged by prestige and proximity.
As United trailed Premier League champions Manchester City by 14 points at the season's conclusion and Liverpool failed to even crack the top four, derby success takes on even more importance with title aspirations faint.
Here's when the two old enemies will face off in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign.
Premier League dates for Man Utd v Liverpool in 2023/24
By the time Manchester United and Liverpool meet for the first time in the 2023/24 Premier League season, Hanukkah will already have been and gone. Liverpool host the first northwest derby at Anfield on Saturday 16 December 2023. Since United's last goal away to Jurgen Klopp's side, Liverpool have scored 15 against the Red Devils on Merseyside alone.
United's first win last season was at home to Liverpool. It would be a historically disastrous affair if the same is true in the 2023/24 Premier League campaign, as Erik ten Hag's side don't welcome Liverpool to Old Trafford until Saturday 6 April 2024.

Man Utd v Liverpool H2H record
Liverpool have won four of their last five meetings with Manchester United but the most recent fixture between the pair threatens to eclipse everything else.
At half-time of United's trip to Anfield in March, they trailed Liverpool 1-0 after a largely even first 45 minutes. Liverpool would then unleash a torrent of six unanswered goals, recording the club's biggest victory over the Red Devils in their history, surpassing a 7-1 win from 1895. It was United's heaviest defeat against any opponent since a Boxing Day triumph for Wolverhampton Wanderers in 1931.
Jamie Carragher audibly giggled in the background of Sky’s commentary and couldn’t resist a sly dig in Gary Neville’s direction after the seventh goal. Neville’s mask of professionalism momentarily slipped as he hissed towards his former professional: "Do one."
Across the last five derbies, United have conceded an embarrassing 21 goals, scoring just four in response.
However, Ten Hag did oversee a 2-1 win against Liverpool at Old Trafford last August. After successive defeats to begin his reign in Manchester, Ten Hag's relief at a maiden victory morphed into defiance. "There was communication, there was a fighting spirit and especially there was a team, and you can see what they can achieve," the Dutchman declared post-game. "Because they can f***ing play good football."
Which version of United turns up in next season's derbies remains to be seen.
