As the 2023 college baseball regular season starts wrapping up, the 2023 Men's College World Series keeps getting closer.
The 2023 regular season for college baseball is wrapping up and that means the NCAA baseball tournament is getting closer. And as the NCAA baseball tournament gets closer, it's time for some to start making travel plans to Omaha for the 2023 Men's College World Series.
But, when exactly does the "Greatest Show on Dirt" actually start? Let's take a dive into the schedule of it all and figure that out.
When does the 2023 College World Series start?
There's a few different levels here before we actually arrive to the CWS.
First we've got Regionals (16 locations with four teams at each location) and then we have Super Regionals (the team that wins each regional advances on for a best-of-three series) and THEN we get to Omaha.
The Regional round of the 2023 college baseball tournament are all scheduled to take place June 2 through June 5. The Super Regionals are slated for either June 9 through 11 or June 10 through 12. And that's when the teams will arrive in Omaha for the CWS, where the first game starts on Friday, June 16.
How many teams make the College World Series?
While MLB fans may be familiar with how the World Series features two teams, the College World Series works a little differently.
While the NCAA baseball tournament starts by featuring a total of 64 teams playing at 16 different regionals all across the country, a grand total of just eight teams will end up getting the opportunity to make it all the way to Omaha for the College World Series.
So, after the Regionals, 16 teams will compete in Super Regionals. Following the Super Regionals is the College World Series, where eight teams end up competing for a chance at the CWS Finals.
And in the Championship Series will be two remaining teams competing in a best-of-three series for the national title.
